Quantum mechanics and Trika Shaiva Darshan are asking the same fundamental question — what is the nature of reality — and arriving at strikingly similar answers from completely different directions.
Cambridge physicist Dr. Mrittunjoy Guha Majumdar presents his book From Shiva to Schrödinger, tracing the metaphysical resonances between Trika Shaiva philosophy and quantum logic. He maps how classical physics gave way to the quantum revolution at the turn of the 20th century — wave-particle duality, superposition, entanglement, the measurement problem — and shows how each of these counter-intuitive phenomena finds philosophical parallel in Kashmir Shaivism’s understanding of spanda (dynamic pulsation), pratyabhijna (recognition of the Self), and the non-dual nature of consciousness and matter.

But the resonance is too systematic to be coincidental. Dr Mrittunjoy Guha Majumdar is an Adjunct Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, and a former Assistant Professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Delhi NCR. He holds a PhD from the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He has conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University, the Indian Institute of Science, and with Nobel Laureate Prof. Brian Josephson. His research spans quantum information, entanglement, and quantum machine learning. A recognized science communicator and policy advisor, he has worked with UNESCO, the G20, and the Government of India.
