Shakta Tantra: Non Duality of Shakti and Shiva | Dr. Arghya Dipta Kar

Within the heart of Shaivism lies a secret: the higher you climb its ritual hierarchy, the more Shakti — not Shiva — becomes the supreme reality. This scholarly lecture traces how the Shakta Tantras emerged not from the periphery but from the deepest core of Kashmiri Shaivism.
Drawing on Alexis Sanderson’s scriptural hierarchy, the speaker places the Kali Krama and Kali Tantras at the absolute summit — beyond Shaiva Siddhanta, Bhairava Tantras, Trika, and even Srividya. As sadhana becomes more heterodox — incorporating wine, meat, and ultimately the Kaula and Yogini Kaula streams of Matsyendranath — Shakti progressively displaces Shiva from the centre, first as equal in the Yamala state, then as the devourer of Mahakala himself.
The lecture illuminates how Poornahanta (the fullness of “I-consciousness”) serves as the resting ground of all experience — and how the state of Kali transcends even this. An intricate, landmark presentation for serious students of Tantra, Trika, and Kashmir Shaivism.
