The Garbha Griha houses no murti; the deity is a formless underground stream of water emerging from the earth itself, surrounded by the ten Mahavidyas and five Shiva shrines. The entire hill is Sadashiva’s body, upon which Kamakhya Devi is seated — a cosmological unity that cannot be understood through ordinary temple-development frameworks.
Nandy explains his PIL, filed first in the Supreme Court and now in the Guwahati High Court, challenging the government’s corridor development project at Kamakhya — not as an anti-Modi political act (he is explicit about this) but as a devotee’s duty to protect a site whose sanctity is irreplaceable. He describes disinformation campaigns framing this legal action as opposition to the government, and appeals to devotees to offer seva — mantra recitation, volunteering, financial support — to the cause of preserving what millions have worshipped in unbroken continuity for centuries.
