Any democracy’s destiny is its demography — and India’s changing demographic map is the single biggest long-term threat that no one is discussing openly. Bhandari documents districts like Malappuram (70% Muslim, no Hindu MP since 1952) and Kishanganj (65% Muslim, same pattern) showing how demographic shifts translate into permanent political exclusion. Despite falling Muslim TFR, the rate of Hindu population decline outpaces it — keeping the demographic gap persistently wide. Bengal, he argues, is approaching pre-Partition demographic conditions in its border regions. His most striking finding: there is not a single Indian constituency where Hindus, once becoming a minority, have ever recovered their majority — but the reverse has happened in multiple places over five decades.
