EP01 Quantum Physics Meets Vedanta: Ancient Darshana Unlocks Modern Science | Dr. Guha Majumdar | Debasis Sarkar

Quantum entanglement, superposition, wave-particle duality — and Vedanta. Dr. Mrittunjoy Guha Majumdar finds they’re asking the same questions.

A quantum physicist trained at Cambridge’s Cavendish Laboratory with post-doctoral work at Harvard, Dr. Guha Majumdar opens a new Sangam Talks series bridging modern physics and Indian philosophical thought. He explains quantum tunnelling (a particle appearing on the other side of a wall without passing through it) as intelligible only through wave-function logic — then connects this to the non-material nature of consciousness in Upanishadic tradition. His book Shiva to Schrodinger and his initiative Mandala — bridging contemporary science and Indic thought — frame a project: not to force ancient texts into physics, but to show that the deepest questions of reality have always been asked in both traditions simultaneously.

About The Speakers:
Dr. Mrittunjoy Guha Majumdar is Adjunct Professor at NIAS, Bengaluru, and Assistant Professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Delhi NCR. A Cambridge PhD, he has pursued postdoctoral research at Harvard, IISc, and with Nobel Laureate Brian Josephson. His work spans quantum information, entanglement, and quantum machine learning. A noted science communicator and policy advisor, he has collaborated with UNESCO, the G20, and the Government of India. He is author of From Shiva to Schrödinger (Penguin) and National Convenor of Mandala, integrating science with Indic knowledge systems.

Debasis Sarkar is an Anchor at The Sangam Talks and an independent researcher in Indology.
