Bhartiya Chaturashram: Historicity And Extrapolation | Dr. Koenraad Elst

The metaphysics of Sanatan Dharma emerged out of the various dimensions of Bhartiya Civilisation and is at the same time unique and universal. One of these facets that are reflected in the traditional culture is the notion of ‘Chaturashram’, which we all are well aware of, consists of ‘Dharma’, ‘Artha’, ‘Kama’, and ‘Moksha’. But to look at it from a purely academic point of view opens up a platform for the critical analysis of these words and their deep meanings. For example, the origin and the semantics of ‘Artha’ are very different from our regular knowledge; which is in a nutshell the eternal truth of the natural order, or the natural law. But that’s not all. There is more to its historicity.
What is the true understanding of ‘Dharma’? What are the dynamics of Karma, Yuga, Moksha, or Yog? We will find our answers and more in this engaging presentation.
