From ‘Yamunotri’ to ‘Prayagraj’, the ‘Yamuna’ River travels a total of 1380 km before it meets the ‘Ganga’. Only 1.7% of its length, which is 22 km, falls within Delhi. However, a staggering 90% of pollutants in the river come from this small stretch of land. The main pollutants are industrial waste and untreated sewage water. The Yamuna River was once a tributary to the ‘Saraswati’ River, which is now extinct, leaving behind barren land in ‘Rajasthan’. The ‘Yamuna’ river is associated with the legendary land of ‘Indraprastha’ and ‘Braj Dham’; and is considered the daughter of ‘Surya’, sister of ‘Yama’, consort of ‘Bhagavan Krishna’, and the goddess of emotion. Despite her significance, we have neglected her just like we did with Nirbhaya. The ‘Yamuna’ River is dying, and we cannot afford to remain silent, can we?
About The Mission of Draupadi Dream Trust: Our mission is to revitalize the sacred Yamuna River, inspired by Draupadi’s legacy, and empower women and youth in community development. Through the “Yamuna-Purity: Draupadi’s Legacy Revived” project, we aim to clean and beautify 12 ghats in Delhi, promote proper waste disposal, and engage the community through technology. Our goal is to safeguard the river’s purity, preserve cultural heritage, and foster environmental sustainability, creating positive change for future generations.
